Greatness Isn't Easy
Ready for a reality check of a lesson? Greatness isn’t easy. It is 100%, absolutely doable and achievable - you have greatness inside of you - but it isn’t easy.
That’s because being great is reserved for the elite few. Those who go above and beyond to build their dream, who are willing to put in the time and effort to develop skills, relationships, and experience, and who are willing to make sacrifices for it. The greatness inside you is your potential, I promise you are capable of it, but realize that it takes a lot of hard work to bring that greatness out of you.
I liken greatness to being extraordinary, and think about that word - 'extra ordinary'. You need to be more than average. There’s the level that most people play at, where they feel like they’re trying hard and doing their best, and then there’s greatness. It’s a different magnitude of commitment. The interesting thing about greatness is it’s a state, meaning that it’s not about what you do but who you are. In order for greatness to be assigned to you, you need to prove it and you need to earn it.
Like any goal you need to be honest about what you need to do to achieve that goal. In the face of challenges and self-doubt, and the uncertainty you encounter, remember that if it were easy everyone would do it, and certain things are reserved for certain people.
So let’s be self-aware for a second and think about what we really want. Do you want to be great at all costs? Few people genuinely do, I personally don’t, I want more balance in my life, but I do have a strong desire to create a legacy that lives beyond my time on earth. It’s a tall task and in order to get there I realize I need to get a whole lot more serious about what that means for my life. Greatness isn’t for everybody, it would be meaningless if it were, but there are pieces of it that are perfectly suited for you. How great do you want to be? And what does it realistically take to get there?
